District level training on SAANS in Mkg, Mon

A district level training on Social Awareness and Action Plan to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) for medical officers (MOs), community health officers (CHOs), general nursing and midwifery (GNM) and auxiliary nursing midwifery (ANM) was held on July 29 and July 30 in Mokokchung and Mon districts respectively.
In Mokokchung, training was held at the conference hall, chief medical officer (CMO) Mokokchung office with the main objective to create wider awareness generation and early detection of pneumonia in children under the age of five years.
At the training, DPO (UIP & RCH), Dr. Ayangla Saku encouraged health workers to effectively implement the knowledge acquired from the training.
The resource persons, paediatrician IMDH, Dr. Imlisenba and MO Changtongya, Dr. Imtimongba trained the trainees on three aspects – Protect, Prevent and Treat (PPT) framework.
Mon: In Mon, the training was held at conference hall of district hospital Mon (DHM) with DHM paediatrician, Dr. Chimang Paul as resource person.
During the training, Dr. Paul emphasised on pneumonia assessment, classification, and management protocol for children; management of pneumonia/ possible serious bacterial infection (PSBI) in young infants (0-59 days); case study, skill stations, etc.
CMO Mon, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo urged the gathering to make use of the opportunity to learn how to prevent, treat, and to stay protected from childhood pneumonia.
Theyo also asked trainees to disseminate whatever they learn during the training to their respective ASHAs as they would be dealing with people at the grass root level.
Further, overview on SAANS programme was highlighted by DPO (UIP&RCH), Dr. Sashinle Tep and a pre-test was conducted after which, a reorientation on “maternal & child death” and “high risk pregnancy” was given by district programme manager, NHM Mon, Moie Bonnie Konyak.
