Dr. T. Ao Trophy kicks off in Mokokchung

Phek to play Dimapur on the opening match today


The 22nd edition of the Inter- District Football Championship Dr. T. Ao Trophy 2022 coinciding with the 50 years celebration of Nagaland Football Association (NFA) kick started at Imkongmeren Sports Complex Mokokchung on Monday with, Agriculture and Cooperation, G. Kaito Aye as chief guest.
The matches will commence from Tuesday, where Phek will lock horn with Dimapur in the opener.
The championship is organised by Nagaland Football Association and hosted by Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA). Advisor, Youth Resources and Sports, Er. Zale Neikha also graced the opening ceremony as special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Kaito said late Dr. T Ao demonstrated not only his talents and skills, but also determination, discipline, and devotion.
Stating that Nagas are exceptionally gifted in arts, music and sports, the minister said that the government was giving utmost priority to develop in these sectors to create opportunities and platforms for the youths.
He also appealed the young participants and spectators to promote oneness among brothers by taking advantage of the platforms provided and spread the message of unity to bring all communities under one banner.
Kaito further said that his dreams of Nagaland to produce exceptional sportspersons like Dr. T. Ao, who will not only bring honour and glory but peace and unity in the land through sports.
Earlier in the programme, welcome address was delivered by president of MDFA, Meyisanger Lemtur and presidential address and jubilee greetings by NFA president, Neibou Sekhose
Minister, Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir and DC Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh also extended greetings.
The programme was followed by an entertainment session with the performances by various artists and bands.
