Eco-carp hatchery inaugurated in Wka

Eco-Carp Hatchery which was set up at New Wokha Village under CSS Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) was inaugurated on June 22 by the director of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Rongsennungba.
According to a DIPR report,, Rongsennungba said availability of quality seed of cultivable freshwater fish species had always been felt for intensification of fish production in the state.
Due to limited fish seed production farms, Rongsennungba said there was lesser production of fry/fingerlings which has led to a gap in demand and supply of quality fish due to which seed was being procured annually from neighbouring states to meet the high demand for fish seeds for state’s fish farmers.
The programme was chaired by joint director Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Ketusielie Angami while vote of thanks was proposed by DFO Wokha, Rulanthubng Ezung.
The development of this project is to suffice fish seed production in the state, DIPR report informed.
