E&S deptt launches online birth, death registration

Economics and Statistics (E&S) department launched online registration of births and deaths in the conference hall of its directorate here on Tuesday.
Launching the application, E&S director Neidilhou Angami congratulated the team of births and deaths section for turning dream into reality as the department had long desired to have the online application facility. He said launching of the facility was an achievement for the department.
Stating that the registration of births and deaths was being implemented through the Registration of Births and Deaths Act 1969 and Nagaland Correspondence Rule 1999, the director said that the office of the Registrars General of India keeping pace with IT Revolution and also on public demand, has come out with the software to enable the people to obtain birth and death certificates.
He informed that the main objective of the software was to facilitate and streamline the citizen service delivery system. Angami said the system has two purposes—enabling the public to apply and obtain the birth and death certificates and managing and recording the data.
The director informed that the department currently has activated two registrars—one at the directorate of E&S and the other one at district E&S office Kohima to have this online registration of birth and death.
E&S director stated that the department would set up the facilities in all the district offices in a phased manner. He said the department would also make an effort to ensure that facility was set up in all the 1465 registers in the rural areas of the state.
He expressed hope that the launching of the software applications will enable the general public and the consumers to conveniently obtain birth and death certificates.
In his remark, E&S additional director Neisatuo Puroh said currently the department was doing it manually and had appointed registrars in all the villages.
Puroh informed that the office of the Registrar General of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs has provided application of online registration and made it mandatory.
During the programme, a demonstration was conducted demo on how to apply for online registration.
