F&AR deptt releases fingerlings at Tizu and Doyang

The department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resource (F&AR) released fingerlings at Tizu River under Zunheboto district and Doyang Reservoir under Wokha district. It may be mentioned that the initiative is part of the river ranching programme, introduced as a special activity under Pradhan Mantri MatsyaSampada Yojana (PMMSY) to augment and enhance fish production and productivity through expansion, intensification, diversification, and productive utilisation of land and water.
ADC Zunheboto asks public to protect aquatic species: FOCUS-IFAD Nagaland in collaboration with F&AR department held a Tizu river ranching with Indian Major Carps (IMC) and Grass Carp at Tizu River where two trucks of fingerlings were released into Tizu River under Zunheboto district.
According to a DIPR report, ADC Zunheboto, Moakumzuk Tzudir, while speaking during the programme, lauded agriculture production commissioner (APC), Y. Kikheto Sema, under whose initiative the project was materialised.
He said in Zunheboto, there were less chances of fish production and the only alternate option was riverine fisheries.
In this regard, he urged upon the public of Zunheboto to do away with using of bleaching powders, generators or batteries which would lead to extinction of aquatic species.
In his address, Sumi Kukami Hoho president, Kashito Yepthomi said all these developmental activities were being possible because there were people behind it.
He acknowledged the efforts of minister for Agriculture, Kaito Aye and APC Kikheto Sema. Kashito further called on GBs of surrounding villages to enforce strict laws to curb the malpractices.
Sumi Hoho president, I Nikheto Jimomi asserted that no matter how much efforts someone made, if the public did not look after such initiatives well, it was as useless as putting precious ornaments on pig’s neck.
He recalled how in the early days, people could catch fishes bare hand because they were available but the aquatic species diminished because they have become enemy to them.
The programme was chaired by NDPP Zunheboto region president, Khehoshe H. Yepthomi, who also read the opening remarks, deputy DAO Zunheboto briefed on FOCUS-IFAD project and vote of thanks was proposed by ZCCI president and ZAPO advisor Kikheto Muru.
‘Doyang requires regular stocking programme’: F&AR department on July 8, released fingerlings in Doyang Reservoir under Wokha.
According to a DIPR report, district fishery officer (DFO) Wokha, Rulanthung Ezung said with the initiative of director F&AR, Rongsennungba, about four lakh fingerlings consisting of fish species rohu, mrigal, silver carp, grass carp, and common carp were stocked in the reservoir under the centrally sponsored scheme (CSS) PMMSY.
Stocking of fingerlings is the mainstay of reservoir fisheries development which will facilitate fish production on a sustainable basis, the DFO informed.
He also said that Doyang Reservoir fell under the medium reservoir, therefore, auto stocking was not possible and required a regular stocking programme to use the productive potential of the water body.
The programme was chaired by fishery inspector, Mhonthung while vote of thanks was proposed by fishery inspector Chumthungo Ovung.
