FCI Mkg highlights functions of Food Storage Depot


Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown Mokokchung, depot in-charge Rongsentemjen and FCI Mokokchung, technical assistant Durgesh highlighted the functioning of Mokokchung FCI Food Storage Depot (FSD), here, on Tuesday.
Addressing the media, Rongsentemjen said FCI Nagaland division office was based in Dimapur with five godowns in five districts under the division.
The FCI godown at Mokokchung has a storage capacity of 3132 metric tons with around 65000-70000 bags of rice with 86% utilisation capacity and it currently has a stock of 2681metric tons of rice, he informed.
Rongsentemjen also stated that around 150-200 truckloads of rice reach Mokokchung godown monthly, however, he said the channel of distribution was routed through PDS system of Food & Civil Supplies (F&CS) department, and the FCI does not issue directly to the public.
While informing that FCI was currently implementing three schemes of the central government through National Food Security Act, the depot in-charge stated that FCI also channelled the food grains (fortified rice) towards mid-day meal scheme quarterly, including Longleng district.
On quality control of rice, Durgesh disclosed that the godown had no uniformed guards deployed, however, they had three guards from the landowners appointed by the deputy commissioner (DC) Mokokchung.
It may be mentioned that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is a central government agency that oversees the distribution of food grains across the country.
The main objective of FCI is to ensure food security of the nation and also oversees the public distribution system.
