Former minister Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi passes away; funeral today

Former minister and also former president of Western Sumi Hoho, Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi passed away in the wee hours of Saturday at Referral hospital here after deteriorating health due to a prolonged ailment. He was 69 and is survived by his wife, six sons and one grandson.
Born on August 3, 1952, Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi was the first Radiologist from Nagaland. He joined politics and in 1993 was elected to the 8th Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 5 Ghaspani-II assembly constituency. He then served as minister of fisheries and home guards from 1993-98. He was also the president of Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) from 2019-21.
According to family sources, funeral service will be held Chekiye Ground, Chekiye Village on February 27 at 10 a.m. After the service, the body will be taken to late Kakheto’s native village Zhuikhu for the final resting place.
Condolences: Nagaland governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and chief minister Neiphiu Rio led in mourning the demise of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi, the first Naga radiologist.
Expressing deep sadness Prof. Mukhi in a message, said Nagaland has lost a dedicated and sincere public leader, in the death of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi.
In a condolence message to Mrs. Kanili Zhimomi, Prof. Mukhi recalled the contributions to the people by late Dr.Kakheto Zhimomi in various capacities in public life including as Minister and member, Political Affairs Committee. Prof.Mukhi said late Dr. Zhimomi’s “relentless and selfless services towards the people of Nagaland in general and Western Sumis in particular will be remembered for years to come.” He also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that God give them strength to bear this tragic loss.
CM: Nagaland chief minister, in a condolence message, described late Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi as “a dear friend and a colleague”, who served the government during the Congress Ministry from 1993 to 1998 and also represented Ghaspani I and Ghaspani II assembly constituencies.
Rio said after retiring from active politics, Dr. Zhimomi also served as the president of Western Sumi Hoho. He described late Dr. Zhimomi as an upright leader with sincere and genuine concerns for the welfare of society, especially those belonging to the marginalised section.
The chief minster said the demise of Dr. Zhimomi was not only a great loss to the Sumi community in particular but to the Nagas in general as the vacuum left by him will be difficult to fill.
The chief minister said “though he is no longer with us, his selfless deeds will always be remembered and the legacy he leaves behind will be honoured.”
Rio extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that Almighty God give them strength and courage to bear the irreparable loss.

NLA speaker: Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Sharingain Longkumer expressed profound sorrow at the passing away of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi who to his credit had a long record of dedicated service to the State of Nagaland initially as a physician and later as a legislator and administrator.
The speaker in his condolence message said late Dr. Kakheto was a leader who earned the love and admiration of the people for his straightforwardness, sense of public service and honesty.
In Dr.K. Zhimomi’s death, Nagaland has lost a great personality and a leader whose contributions will be fondly remembered noted the Speaker.
The NLA speaker, expressed deepest condolence on behalf of the members of the 13th NLA, to the bereaved family members at their moment of grief and prayed that the Almighty give them strength to bear the great loss with courage and fortitude.

R.N.Ravi: Tamil Nadu governor RN Ravi expressed deep shock at the sudden passing away of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi. , saying he has lost a dear friend in his demise.
In a condolence message to Mrs. Kanili Zhimomi, RN Ravi said he has lost a dear friend in the demise of Dr.K.Zhimomi. Ravi said Dr.K.Zhimomi will always be remembered as a bold and upright leader, a great visionary who dedicated his life for the best interest of the Naga people.
In this hour of enormous grief, Ravi prayed the Lord for strength to bearded family members to bear with this tragic loss and the departed soul to rest in peace.

WSH: Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) through its president Shikaho Zhimomi and general secretary Kisheto Chishi expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi, who they described was the epitome of the true son of the western Sumi soil by blood.
In a condolence message, WSH said “True to blood, he was a selfless and fearless leader”, adding that he was the first son of the western Sumi soil to sit in the high chair of the minister in the state government.
The hoho stated that WSH is what it is today because of the exceptional service of late Dr. Kakheto to the hoho; first as the general secretary, and later, as the president.
During his stint as WSH president, the hoho said he never dithered in taking hard pragmatic decisions, even in the face of unrelenting criticism, for the greater common good.
Further, WSH said that his was a leadership that abhorred “ism”, and fully committed to bringing positive change. It said he harmonized inter-tribal relations and left an indelible footprint for all leaders at all levels to emulate.
In his demise, the hoho said they have lost an all-weather dependable shield, a father figure and a mentor whose absence will be sorely missed. “Needless to say, his demise is an irreplaceable loss, but the legacy of work and ideas left behind and imprinted in our minds, will remain, be emulated, and always cherished,” the hoho said.
WSH also shared the burden of loss with the family members of the departed and prayed that the Good Lord grant comfort and strength to bear this irreparable loss.
Dy.CM: Deputy chief minister Y. Patton expressed pain over the demise of former minister and former president of Western Sumi Hoho, Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi. He said that throughout his illustrious life, Dr. Kakheto made immense contributions towards Naga society, which will never be forgotten.
He conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the soul to rest in peace.

Tovihoto: Expressing deep grief over the demise of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi, the advisor power H Tovihoto Ayemi described him as “a man of principle and wisdom who served the people with sincere devotion.”
In a condolence message, Ayemi said late Dr. Zhimomi, as a noted physician, an honest politician and an upright social leader sincerely discharged his duties for the welfare of the people. Advisor said that his immense contribution towards the society in different forms will be remembered for years to come. Ayemi also conveyed condolences to the family of the bereaved at this hour of grief and prayed that God rest his soul in everlasting peace and joy.

Imkong Imchen: NPF legislator, Imkong L Imchen, mourned the demise of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi and said that he was such a nice leader, always willing to served others with humbleness and with honesty. In a condolence message, Imchen said he knew late Dr.Zhimomi even before he became MLA, adding that he will always cherish his love and affection.
Imchen conveyed deepest and sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prayed that the Almighty God comfort them mercy and also grant Eternal Peace to the departed soul.

WC, NNPGs: Working Committee (WC) Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) has expressed deep pain over the sudden demise of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi, saying it will miss his bold statesmanship in social arena.
In a condolence note, GPRN/NSCN ato kilonser and convener WC, NNPGs, N Kitovi Zhimomi, stated that late Dr. Zhimomi lived his life with great commitment with high ideals in his personal, professional and social conducts.
WC stated that he was not only a respected physician but a former legislator turned social reformer who perfectly understood the Naga political aspiration in its correct perspective. He was among the handful of Naga intellectuals who did not bow down to threats and intimidations, WC stated.
With clear understanding of the Naga issue, he advised the WC, NNPGs on the dynamics of “Indo-Naga” talks through open consultations, it added.
WC further stated that the leadership role he exhibited with wisdom will be cherished.
It also prayed that the Almighty God bless and strengthen his loved ones at this hour of grief.

CNTC: Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has expressed shock and grief over the sudden demise of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi, saying that Sumis in particular and Nagas in general have lost a great statesman and a tall leader.
In a condolence message, CNTC president T Lanu Imchen and general secretary Tsungroshan Kithan said that late Dr. Kakheto was “a true people’s leader” who made tremendous contributions and sacrifices not only for the welfare of his community but all other communities.
CNCTC said that his visionary endeavours and selfless contributions right from the grassroots level to the top were truly remarkable and noteworthy.
CNTC extended deepest condolences to Mrs. Kanili Zhimomi and all the children and prayed that Almighty God grant them peace and comfort.

NPCC: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) expressed deep pain over the passing away of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi, saying in his passing, the Sumi community and the Nagas have lost a tall, dedicated and selfless leader.
In a condolence message, NPCC president K Therie stated that late Dr. Kakheto was a leader who worked tirelessly not only for the welfare of the people he represented, but also for the welfare of the Sumi community in particular and the Nagas in general throughout a lifetime of public service.
Although he was one-time with the Congress party, NPC president said he had to take up the mantle of his people by serving as the president of Western Sumi Hoho.
NPCC president on behalf of the party rank and file offered condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the Almighty God grant them solace to cope through this most difficult time.

NSCN (Khango/Isak): NSCN (Khango/Isak) has expressed shock over the sudden demise of Late Dr. Kakheto Zhimo, who it described was “a larger than leader, the man who walks the talk.”
In a condolence message, the group’s ato kilonser “col.(retd.)” Isak Sumi stated that late Dr.Kakheto during his life time served Nagas in various capacities.
It stated that a doctor by profession, late Dr. Kakheto was called to serve as a minister in the government of Nagaland and also served in various social platforms and NGOs.
The group stated his sudden demise was a great lost for the Nagas, adding that the void he left will never be filled.
NSCN/GPRN conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and thanked late Dr. Kakheto and his family for their service towards the Nagas.

NGBF: Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) has expressed deep sadness at the demise of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi, who it said was “an upright leader with contemporary quality.”
NGBF through its media cell stated that his contributions towards Naga society will be remembered by one and all. In his demise, the federation said Nagas have lost a great soul, adding that the vacuum left behind will be difficult to fill. NGBF also extended deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

ENPUD: Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Dimapur (ENPUD) has also expressed deep grief over the demise of late Dr.Kakheto, saying his passing away has created big gap which will be irreplaceable.
ENPUD through its media cell described late Dr. Kakheto as was a tall leader who was a sincere and dedicated person. It said acknowledged his tireless and selfless effort for the welfare of the Sumi tribe and the Nagas.
The union conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that Almighty God grant them solace.

CVC: Expressing pain over the demise of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi, the Chekiye Village Council (CVC) said that in his demise they have lost a prominent citizen of the village, who had through his illustrious and exemplary leadership inspired the young and old to stand with courage and integrity even in the harshest of circumstances.
In a condolence message, CVC chairman Hukavi Zhimomi expressed belief that the seeds of exemplary dignity and steadfastness sown in his lifetime will reap manifold rewards to the village and the community for generations to come. CVC conveyed sincere condolences to the bereaved family and relatives and prayed that the Almighty God give them solace.

NPP state unit: National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland State unit expressed shock at the sudden demise of Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi and said that in his death, Nagaland in general and the Sumi community in particular have lost a staunch supporter of human rights and dignity of the Naga people.
In a condolence message, NPP state unit stated that Dr.Kakheto during his political career in the government of Nagaland not only brought about equitable and inclusive development of Nagaland, but also laid emphasis on bringing the North Eastern region on the map of progress and development.
As a people’s leader, NPP unit said late Dr. Kakheto tried his best to uplift the lot of people belonging to all religious groups, communities and tribes.
NPP state unit paid homage to the departed soul and also offered condolences to the bereaved family members and relatives.
