Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru, retired principal director (PD), health & family welfare (H&FW), passed away at a private hospital in Dimapur on Thursday night.
Dr. Medikhru first joined government service as assistant surgeon at Naga Hospital, Kohima in 1986.
Besides holding several posts, Dr Kevichusa also held many important assignments in mission mode programmes such as state programme officer of NHRM, mission director, National Health Mission (NHM), nodal officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme as well as Health Intelligence Bureau. He retired from service as PD H&FW department in April 2021.
State chief minister Neiphiu Rio has led others in mourning the demise of the retired officer. Rio expressed deep sadness over the sudden and untimely passing away of Dr. Medikhru and said that his death was a great loss for the State in general, and for the Chakhesang community in particular.
The chief minister said that due to his hard work and effective management of the various programmes in which he was the nodal officer, and also in his capacity as PD of H&FW department, the possible outbreak of many dangerous diseases such as SARS, Avian Flu, HINI and Covid-19 were either prevented or controlled effectively.
Rio said late Dr.Medikhru’s good works and contributions will continue to inspire many, especially the medical fraternity of Nagaland.
The chief minister conveyed heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family as well as to the medical fraternity in Nagaland.
NLA speaker: Mourning the demise of Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Sharingain Longkumer said that late officer was a real public servant who earned the love and admiration of the people for his simplicity, straightforwardness and amiable nature.
NLA speaker said that his noble deeds and service to the people would always be fondly remembered.
Longkumer conveyed sincere condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for strength and fortitude during this difficult time.
Azo: NPF legislature party leader and UDA co-chairman Kuzholuzo Azo Nienu has expressed shock over the sudden passing of Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru and said that his demise was “a personnel loss to me and I will cherish his contributions as a friend and associate.”
In a condolence message, Azo described late Dr. Medikhru as an able officer, who served the department diligently in various capacities in his 35 years of service. Azo said when he was the medical minister, Dr. Medikhru had guided him with his wisdom and knowledge about the department.
Azo extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that Almighty God grant them strength in this hour of pain and sorrow.
H&FW deptt: Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland has expressed grief over the untimely demise of Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru, an inspiring, very supportive and a highly motivating officer.
In a condolence message, principal director H&FW, Dr. K. Vikato Kinimi said that Dr. Medikhru’s contributions to the department will always be appreciated.
PD H&FW, on behalf of the officers and staffs of the department, has extended condolences and deepest sympathy and prayed that the “love and mercy of our Lord be bestowed upon the family during this time of grief.”
