Friends of 80 plus observed it’s 17th foundation day at T. Khel community hall, Kohima village here, on Saturday.
During the programme, guest of the event, Angami Public Organisation (APO) president Razouvotuo Chatsu said it was encouraging to see elders above 80 years, who, he said, were the strength of the community.
Friends of 80 plus convenor, Neidonuo Angami, in the editorial to a photobook released during the day said the elders yearned and eagerly waited for the get-together to celebrate the day as it gave them an opportunity to meet each other and feast together.
She said the enthusiasm and participation of the senior citizens was a reminder of how such a small initiative had led to a grand celebration of lives.
During the programme, Kohima Village Doctors Association (KVDA), Dr. Viketoulie Pienyü shared tips on how to live a healthy life.
The programme was chaired by Vilakuolie Mere who informed that out of 159 elders, 40 were from Dapfhütsumia Khel (D Khel), 34 from Tsütuonuomia Khel (T Khel), 21 from Pfuchatsuma Khel (P Khel), and 64 from Lhisemia Khel (L Khel). He informed that in the past two years, the village recorded the death of 54 persons above the age of 80 years, of which 15 were from D Khel, 10 from T Khel, 15 from P Khel, and 14 from L Khel.
Earlier, invocation was said by Khedi Baptist Church, senior pastor, Rev Sehu Belho while special numbers were presented by Friends of 80 plus and Ulikhrie.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by health and family welfare retired principal director, Dr. Vizolie Suokhrie.
A medical camp for the elders was also conducted by KVDA.
Altogether, 159 senior citizens above 80 years participated in the programme.
