GB’s Union Dimapur (Sadar/Urban) has strongly opposed the decision of the Nagaland GB Federation (NGBF) annual executive meeting held at Dimapur on October 7, 2021 to extend the tenure of NGBF office bearers till 2025.
In a press release, GBUD president MY Ngullie, vice president W Kholie Kapfo, general secretary T Onen Jamir, and joint secretary Rangau termed the decision as “unconstitutional” and reiterated that the executive body did not have any authority to extend the post of a president for a consecutive term.
The union pointed out that NGBF constitution Article 10-A categorically states “…A candidate once held the post of a President shall not be nominated for second time.” GBUD stated that the executive body can, only in an exceptional circumstance, obtain the approval of the general body to extend the term of office bearers, but not beyond six months.
Further, it stated that the during the intervening period general body meeting should be convened and constitute a search committee.
GBUD expressed dismay that the “purported and lopsided decision” of the executive body was in contravention with Article 10-A of NGBF constitution.
Therefore, GBUD affirmed neither to support nor acknowledge the present NGBF officials since the purported extension for another full tenure was unconstitutional, unauthorised and undemocratic.
The union said it would refrain from extending support and cooperation to NGBF till the president and office bearers were selected/elected as per the constitution of the NGBF.
GBUD has, therefore, urged the state government not to release Nagaland GBs’ Corpus Fund and other funds till such period the president and official were constitutionally selected/elected.
The union said it was is not against any particular member, but as a responsible organisation “strongly object” the decision of the executive meeting.
GBUD has requested that the executive body immediately convene a general body meeting and constitute a search committee for selection of office bearers in strict compliance with NGBF constitution “till then Corpus fund should not be released to NGBF activities.”
