GSKSK observes ‘Bhanu Jayanti’ in Kohima

Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha Kohima (GSKSK) organised a programme for Gorkha and Nepali community in Kohima on the 208th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya at Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) Hall on Wednesday.
In a press release, Gorkha Youth Association Kohima president,
Narayan Bahadur informed that GPPK president Santu Thapa in his speech urged upon the gathering to take Nepali language forward and to preserve the culture.
He expressed hope that the occasion would bring peace, prosperity, progress and strengthen the bond of relationship among the Nepali speaking community.
Sharing a brief life sketch of Bhanu Bhakta Acharya, GSKSK literary secretary Sankar Rai said he was a Nepali writer, poet and translator who was regarded as the first writer in Nepali language.
Acharya was the one who translated the great epic Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali, Rai said.
The occasion was marked with gold medal felicitation for excellence to mechanical engineer Kapil Thapa and felicitation for Art and Poem competitions conducted by GSKSK and 10-day long hands-on training on computer and library for children by GPPPK.
Highlights of the programme included cultural songs and dances, poem recitations by various clubs and organisations.
The programme was chaired by GSKSK general secretary Binod Mothey, garlanding of the sculpture of Adikavi Bhanu Acharya by heads of Gorkha NGOs in Kohima while GSKSK president CK Lama delivered the welcome address and vice president Ganga Thapa proposed the vote of thanks.
