KFD receives Malayan Night Heron

Kohima Forest Division (KFD) on Tuesday, received a Malayan Night Heron (Gorsachius melanolophus), which was rescued from the premises of RDNÜMS, Old Ministers’ Hill, Kohima on the evening of September 19.
A press release by KFD stated that the bird was handed over to the division by Vesato Theluo and released in the presence of the Range Forest Officer (RFO), Kohima range, Pezaneinuo Chielie and the range staff.
RFO informed that this was the third case in a span of three years, the first reported case was on November 18, 2020 and the second on October 6, 2021. RFO said this species was found in Southern and eastern Asia including India.
Though the population trend was not yet known, RFO said it lies between 2000 and 20,000 and its classification status by IUCN was under Least Concern (LC).
