Kisan Mela, farmers’-scientist interaction held in Wokha

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Wokha organised “Kisan Mela-cum-farmer’s-scientist interaction” under “Jal Shakti Abhiyan” and “Kisan Bhagidari Prathmikta Hamari” on the theme “catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls” on June 23, at the KVK campus.
In a press release, ICAR KVK Wokha informed that during the programme, special guest of the programme, deputy commissioner (DC) Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan lauded the works of the departments and farmers in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. He asked them to strive for a sustainable agriculture. Theme speaker, Water Resources department Wokha, executive engineer, Er. S. Benrio Kithan spoke on the importance of harvesting water and encouraged the participants for saving and harvesting water.
Meanwhile, senior scientist and head i/c KVK Wokha, Dr. Moa delivered welcome address and gave a brief report on mandates, objectives and activities carried out by KVK.
Short speeches were also delivered by heads and representatives of the various departments.
The programme was attended by district agriculture officer, district sericulture officer, Lead Bank manager, officials from departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture, Fishery, Forest, Veterinary, Soil and Water Conservation.
Around 186 farmers participated in the programme, where exhibition stalls were set up by KVK, ATMA, department of Sericulture, department of Soil and Water Conservation and five Self Help Groups (SGHs). The programme was chaired by ACTO, KVK Wokha, Dr. Bendangla Imsong who also proposed vote of thanks.
Later, inputs including—farm implements, Jalkhunds, vermibeds, poultry chicks, fish fingerlings and kharif seeds were distributed to the farmers.
