Kohima beat Mokokchung as Tseminyu, Peren run riot


Host Mokokchung went down fighting to Kohima 0-1 while Tseminyu hammered Zunheboto 6-0 and Peren registered a huge 5-0 win over Noklak on the second day of the 22nd Inter District Dr. T. Ao Football Trophy at Mokokchung on Wednesday.
Playing in front of fully packed home supporters, Mokokchung started brightly and gave the crowd to cheer their home team.
However, they were undone in their finishing. Kohima took time to settle down and got familiar with the ground condition and eventually got their momentum in the second half.
Then a moment of brilliance from Kohima forward Yhome, who latched on a loose ball into the empty net to silence the crowd in the 57th minute.
After that Mokokchung failed to make much impact as Kohima took the game in their hands and lead till the final whistle. Kevisanyu of Kohima and Temsunungsang of Mokokchung received yellow cards for foul play.
Kemp scores five goals
Yhunshalo Kemp scored five goals as Football Association Tseminyu District thrashed Zunheboto District Football Association 6-0 in a rain soaked match.
Kemp also became the first player to score a hat-trick of the tournament.
The match which was played under a wet ground did not stop Tseminyu from starting on the front foot.
They opened the account in 6th minute through Ntsenlo Semp, thereafter Yhunshalo Kemp scored his hat-trick in the 17th, 19th and 34th minutes.
He went on to score two more goals in the second half in the 38th and 50th minutes.
Zunheboto team had no answer as the match ended 5-0 in favour of Tseminyu at the end of the final whistle.
Easy win for Peren
Peren District Football Association piped Football Association Noklak District 5-0 to kick start their campaign in style.
Taking an early lead, Peren team was three goals up within the 19 minutes of the game and showed their prowess in the field with playmaker Khiuwangbo Kaurintah taking the center stage.
Ratobe N Poireng, Kenumdi Winamthiu and Zumzum Punyii were the scorers for Peren.
Earlier, debutant Shamator fought bravely but failed to open an account in their first match.
While Longleng team would be optimistic to improvise their upcoming matches as they were left undone in their finishing.
The match ended in a goalless draw with both teams sharing a point each. In the match, Vicky Konyak and Thulonso Yimchunger of Shamator, M. Chinglung Phom of Longleng were cautioned with yellow cards.
