Kohima Super Cup: Barak FC enter final


Barak FC entered the final of the Kohima Super Cup after defeating G-Sports 5-3 via soot out after both sides were locked to 2-2 draw at IG Stadium here on Saturday.
Elminghao scored the first goal in the 13th minute but didn’t last long as G-Sports’ Menguzelie equalised within a minute.
Some close calls and impressive saves by the keepers of both the sides gave the fans a match worth every penny.
The tussle continued as both the teams strived to better the other but were unable to make any progress as the first session ended in 1-1 draw.
After the break, Barak’s Winamthiu extended the lead in the 73rd minute.
However, G-Sports’ Temjenwati Longkumer found the equalizer in the 80th minute when one of his teammates was faulted in the penalty area to take the match into additional time.
With both sides locked to 2-2, an additional time of 30 minutes was added.
This time it was G-Sports, which took the upper hand when Kekhrieletuo Tsira gave them the lead in the 92nd minute.
However, Barak’s star player and the lone striker, Bodo Jr, held no quarters and netted the third to level the scoreline in the 93rd minute.
The additional time also ended in stalemate.
In the shoot-out, Barak FC won 5-3.
In the final, Barak will now take on the winner of the second semi finalists between A-Yhome FC and New Market FC.
3rd Xavier Memorial Trophy today
The third 3rd Xavier Rutsa Memorial Trophy will be held on Sunday coinciding with the ongoing Kohima Super Cup 2022.
Kohima Town Club (KTC) and the Kohima Press Club (KPC) will be co-organising the match after the second semi final match between A-Yhome FC and New Market FC.
The event will be a friendly football match between the two clubs and is organized as a tribute to late Xavier Rutsa, who was one of the founding members of both the clubs.
