L Astro turf inaugurated in Kohima


L Viluo FIFA Pro turf, a seven a side astro turf pitch was inaugurated at Vilietsa, Meriema along NH-2, here on Thursday.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) president, Mathew Yhome, lauded the Viluo family, the proprietors of the turf, for coming up with the sports facility.
With the family’s contribution towards football, Mathew, a former professional footballer himself, said that more of such sports facilities were needed for the development of the sport.
Advocating for football as a profession, he urged the upcoming players to pursue the game seriously and even make it to the national and international levels.
Mathew advised players to be focused in their particular area of interest and try to excel in it.
Stressing on the need for more investment in the sports sector, he called on entrepreneurs, politicians and potential investors to improve the sector with the hope to see growth of sportspersons in the state.
Further, he challenged the youth to look beyond government jobs and explore other career opportunities. With the facility now open to public, he appealed to the people to avail it at the same time respect and maintain the facility.
Meanwhile, the Viluo family informed that it took 9 months to make the turf a reality.
CR Mission Church Kohima pastor David Yashü, while dedicating the turf hoped that the pitch would not be used only for competition purposes but also as a centre to help people maintain fitness.
Earlier, the inaugural was chaired by Viluo Angami and Kekhrievonuo Viluo while invocation was pronounced by Christ King Hr. School, principal, Fr Rang Anthony, SDB.
Welcome address was delivered by Meriema Village Council, chairman, Keduolhoulie Houzha.
Brief history about the turf was shared by L. Viluo Family and Surekha Export Company.
A special number was presented by Medokhrieü Pfukri and Medozhau Pfukri.
