Major fire breaks out Mnp CID office

A major broke out at the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Manipur police in Imphal’s Babupara on Monday.
According to security personnel on sentry duty at nearby VIP buildings, the fire broke out from one of the rooms of the CID office around 2 am.
On receiving, fire tenders from the Imphal fire service station rushed to the spot to douse off the fire at around 2.30 am and continued till 8 am.
Additional fire tenders were also called in from Thoubal, Yairipok, Bishnupur and Kangpokpi fire stations. Documents and office materials were reduced to ashes. The extent of the damages caused by the inferno were yet to be ascertained as offices are yet to submit details of the properties in their respective offices, SP fire service said.
Preliminary reports, however, said that some of the arms and ammunition submitted by the underground cadres when they surrendered to the government authorities were damaged, source said.
Meanwhile, state chief minister N Biren Singh told the house in the ongoing monsoon session that except some photographs all the important data were saved in digital forms.
Making a statement after the zero hour, Singh informed the house that the fire damaged around 75 per cent of the old CID office building.
Singh added that most of the data stored at the CID office including for crime branch, crime branch (technical), crime branch (security) and cybercrime had already been converted to digital formats except for photographs of some prisoners. The data are saved in digital formats and the photograph of those in jail will be taken again, the chief minister added.
