Manipur landslide death toll climbs to 49 with one more body recovered


The death toll from the devastating landslide at railway line construction camp in Manipur’s Noney district climbed to 49 with one more dead body recovered on Thursday.
Twelve bodies were still missing and search operation will continue further on Friday, it added.
Official update on the ongoing search and rescue operation from the Noney DC informed that one more dead body, identified as a missing villager, was recovered today, day eight of the operation.
Finding missing bodies was increasingly difficult as the ability to trace them decreased with depth, the DC said.
Of the 79 officially confirmed victims of the landslide, 49 bodies have been recovered so far, 18 people have been rescued alive, while 12 victims are still missing. The operation to trace the missing persons will continue, it added.
