Materials for prez poll reaches Mnp, other NE states

With only five left to go to the presidential poll, polling materials, including ballot papers for the election, arrived in Imphal on Wednesday.
Soon after arrival of the polling materials at Imphal Airport, they were transported to Manipur Legislative Assembly complex under strict security arrangement and deposited at the strong room of the Manipur Assembly secretariat.
The 16th presidential election to elect the next President of India is scheduled on July 18.
Presently, Ram Nath Kovind is the incumbent President of India and the election was necessitated under Article 56(1) of the Constitution of India providing that the President of India shall remain in office for a period of five years.
Consequent to the expiry of the term of President Ram Nath Kovind, an election poll to fill in the office is scheduled to be held on July 18.
The counting of votes will take place on 21 July.
Two candidates, Yashwant Sinha, former BJP leader, common candidate of UPA and other opposition parties, and ruling NDA’s common candidate Draupadi Murmu are in the fray for the highest constitutional post.
In Manipur, the 60 members of the state Assembly, two members of the Lok Sabha and one member of the Rajya Sabha are the electorates of the presidential election.\
Meanwhile, the poll materials have also reached others Northeast states, namely; Assam, Tripura, and Nagaland.
