Mimkut festival celebrated at Athibung

Athibung sub-division celebrated Mini Hornbill-cum-Mimkut festival at Athibung town, Peren on January 17. The celebration was graced by advisor Water Resources, Namri Nchang as the special guest, DIPR reported.Speaking at the program, Narmi urged the gatherings to celebrate the occasion to the fullest with fruitful meaning. He said that the first priority was to educate youngster the true meaning of festival and its local dialect in order to preserve one’s culture and unique identity. He also asked the people to stay active in every role by educating the upcoming generation. The advisor also spoke on the importance of Covid-19 and its vaccine and encouraged the mass to take the Covid seriously and maintain appropriate behavior.He further added that the state government was trying its best to take up various developmental work in the areas and therefore encouraged the gathering  to extend support.  SDO (C) Ahthibung, Vekusheyi Rhakho who graced the inaugural function held on January 16 said, Nagaland is known as the ‘Land of Festivals’ where every tribe has one or more festivals celebrated year round for varied reasons. The programme  was chaired by  SIS Athibung circle Education Department, Hentinthang Singson while traditional welcome song was performed by Pa Lalsat Sitlhou and team followed by welcome speech and submission of memorandum  by KIN general secretary,  Thangkhokai Gangte.  Chief host, retd IPS, L.Singsit; joint director, Agriculture department and president Kuki INPI Nagaland also delivered short speeches. Cultural exhibition was also performed by Nkio cultural troupe, Beisumpui cultural troupe, Athibung cultural troupe etc.
