Mnp landslide: 1 more body recovered; death toll-48

The death toll from the devastating landslide in Manipur’s Noney district climbed to 48 with one more dead body recovered on Wednesday, day seven of the search and rescue operation.
An official ground zero report said that a dead body, later identified as that of missing Subedar Umesh Lama of B Coy of 107 Territorial Army was fished out from Ijei River around 3.30 pm on Wednesday.
On day six of the operation, no recovery was reported as the operation was hampered by another landslide at the same site coupled with inclement weather.
With the recovery of the dead body, as many as 48 dead bodies have been recovered so far since day one of the search and rescue operation.
In the operation, 18 people have been rescued alive while 13 victims out of 79 trapped in the landslide are still missing. The operation to trace the missing persons will continue, the officials said.
The massive landslide struck the railway construction camp at Marangjing in Noney district where a camp of the TA was also located in the wee hours of June 30.
Of the dead bodies recovered so far, 29 were personnel of the TA, 11 from VSC, two from railways (though one was yet to be fully verified), three from BIPL, one from NIPL Infra Projects, and two civilians engaged by TA and BIPL.
Those still missing include one from TA, six from VSC, and one from railways. The rest are villagers.
