Monsoon session of Mnp Assembly begins

The monsoon session of the Manipur assembly commenced here on Monday with obituary references to one of its former member and victims of the devastating landslides at a railway line construction site in Noney district of the state.
The monsoon session which will have 11 sittings will conclude on August 5.
On day one of the sitting, the house took up obituary references to the demise of its former member Yengkhom Thambal Singh and on the loss of lives due to the recent massive landslides.
The massive landslide at the railway line construction site at Marangching in Noney district of Manipur occurred on the intervening night of June 29 and 30.
Of the officially confirmed 79 people, mostly personnel of the Territorial Army affected by the devastating landslide, 58 dead bodies have so far retrieved from the debris and 18 rescued alive.
Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh moved a resolution in the house expresses its deep and profound sorrow on the demise of one of its former members and for the loss of lives due to landslides.
The 60-member house observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for the departed souls.
After the obituary references, the house took up the business of the day – motion of thanks to Governor’s address given in the first session of the 12th state assembly in March last and presentation of budget estimates, 2022-23 – among others.
In the absence of chief minister N Biren Singh, agriculture minister Th Biswajit Singh who is looking after the charge of the chief minister presented the budget estimates 2022-23 on the floor of the house.
While presenting the budget estimates, Singh highlighted various priority sectors of the present government and said that the incumbent government will ensure all round development of every section of the society in the state.
The house further passed the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address amid some members’ demand for amendments to the address.
Making an observance during the discussion on the motion of thanks, minister Th Biswajit Singh called on all members of the house to support the government in working towards the welfare of the state.
