Nagaland: Enforcement drives conducted in Dimapur, Wokha

A “checking drive” against violators of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) was conducted by enforcement squad of the District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Dimapur on September 21 in areas where shops are located within 100 yards of schools in Diphupar village and Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR).
In a press release, DTCC Dimapur stated that the joint team comprising of enforcement squad from Diphupar police station, Diphupar youth organization, CIHSR security personnel and DTCC staff seized tobacco products and the violators were penalised on the spot. The seized products were destroyed.
District Tobacco Control Cell Dimapur informed that COTPA Section- 6(a) & 6 (b) prohibits sale of tobacco products within a radius of one hundred yards of any educational institutions.
Wokha: COTPA flying squad team of Wokha police station along with representatives from National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), DBs, Wokha police personnel and Women police personnel conducted enforcement drive in an around educational institutions on Thursday.
According to a DIPR report, the team penalised one defaulter and seized tobacco products from the shops falling within restricted areas.
The defaulters were warned that necessary legal action would be initiated as per provision of the law, should they fail to abide by the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act Act.
Later, the seized tobacco products were destroyed in the presence of the team at Wokha police station premises.
