Nagaland: Kohima District Sports Council members nominated

Correspondent

Kohima district administration nominated 5 members from different sports bodies in the district to be part of a 7-member Kohima District Sports Council (KDSC) during a consultative meeting at DC’s office, here on Thursday.
KDSC will be headed by deputy commissioner, Kohima, Shanavas C, while district sports officer (DSO) as member secretary and other members included presidents of Angami Sports Association (ASA), Kohima District Football Association (KDFA), representatives from Kohima District Badminton Association (KDBA), Sepaktakraw and Athletics bodies of the district.
Shanavas informed that the list of nominated members would be forwarded to the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting next month for approval.
The DC told the house that the sports council would act as the uniting body for all sports associations in the district while the meeting was reportedly the first meeting for the constitution of the district’s sports council.
Shanavas urged the sporting bodies to begin players’ registration process and make preparations for the upcoming Nagaland Olympics & Paralympic Games 2022 to be held next month.
He hoped a good number of players would turn up from the state capital to participate in the Games.
The meeting was attended by representatives from sports body and other disciplines including football, badminton, athletics, sepaktakraw, basketball, tennis, cricket etc.
During the course of the interaction, representatives raised concerns relating to their respective disciplines.
The district’s basketball association raised its concerns over dismantling of the only existing State-owned court at Khuochiezie (local ground) rendering the players helpless and without a place to practice. To which the DC suggested that a private basketball court be identified and subsequently the council would seek approval for utilization of the same till the developmental works at the local ground was completed.
ASA recommended that there be a proper coordination between the sports bodies while selecting the district squad and choose athletes who had certificates in support of their performance.
The meeting was chaired by the DC while seen in attendance was the ADC, SDO(C) and DSO.
