Nagaland observes ‘Hariyali Saptah’

As part of union ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, “Hariyali Saptah”, a nationwide plantation drive in commemoration of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, Nagaland also organised plantation drives in Kohima and Mokokchung on July 8.
According to division forest officer, Kohima, Rajkumar M, plantation drive was organised by Nagar Vans of Kohima at Forest Colony and Botanical Garden. PCCF and HoFF, Dharmendra Prakash graced the programme held at Forest colony as chief guest. In his brief address, he spoke about the importance of environment and encouraged everyone to take up initiatives to protect the environment.
In Mokokchung, as part of the celebration, Marep Forest Park has been selected as site to represent Nagaland. The dignitaries witnessed the ceremonial plantations in the presence of DC Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh; SP Mokokchung, Aotula, and officers and staff of the Mokokchung Forest Division along with the Nagaland Development Outreach NGO.
DFO Mokokchung, Dr. Sentitula said that Van Mahotsav is a forest festival and annual tree planting season in the entire country, which is celebrated in the first week of July.
The objective behind celebrating Van Mahotsav was to keep local people involved in plantation drives and to spread environmental awareness. She stated that with the active participation from all sections of society in the district, mass plantation has been carried out.
It may be noted that union ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change organised a plantation drive throughout the country under the banner of ‘Hariyali Saptah’.
The main programme took place in Delhi where minister, MoEF&CC, Bhupender Yadav and MoS, MoEF&CC, Ashwini Kumar Choubey graced the programme. The programme was organised countrywide in 150 locations.
