Nagaland Olympic: Football group stage draw announced


Ahead of the upcoming Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2022, Nagaland Football Association (NFA) Tuesday announced the group stage draw of the district football associations that will be taking part in football event.
The announcement was made at the annual general meeting of the NFA along with representatives from all the district football associations at NOA office Kohima.
NFA president, K Neibu Sekhose said football competition would begin on August 17, a week ahead of the main event which would kick start from August 22.
The matches would be played on league-cum- knock out system.
The teams were divided into four groups:
Group A: Dimapur, Wokha, Zunheboto, Peren.
Group B: Shamator, Tuensang, Mon, Kohima.
Group C: Tseminyu, Kiphire, Noklak, Mokokchung.
Group D: Phek, Ch├╝moukedima, Longleng, Niuland.
Dimapur is the defending champion and Phek is the runner-up in the first edition.
The meeting also deliberated on the by-laws of the upcoming tournament.
NFA also informed that Nagaland Futsal Championship 2022 will be hosted by Kohima in September where all the districts will send a club each to represent the district.
It was also announced that Tuensang district football association will host the next edition of Dr T Ao Inter District Football Trophy 2023. The president in a presentation also mentioned that State League 2023 and senior women football championship 2023 were also in the pipeline. It may be noted that the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games is scheduled to be held from August 22 to 27 to be played in Kohima and Dimapur.
