Nagaland: Sepaktakraw for Shamator under Khelo India



Shamator district was the only district in the state to opt for Sepaktakraw Centre under Khelo India and as approved and sanction was already made by the ministry, recruitment for coaches and other requirements will be followed up soon.
Advisor youth resource and sports, Er. Zale Neikha informed Nagaland Post that each district was given an opportunity to choose two disciplines out of which it was only Shamator district that opted for the Sepaktakraw game.
Accordingly, he said the proposal was sent to the ministry for approval and sanction has already been made to the state and thereby sub-centre and recruitment will be initiated soon.
Meanwhile, the three Naga Sepaktakraw players who secured medals during the 35th Kings Cup, World Sepaktakraw Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand recently were felicitated by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports (YR&S) on Thursday at the Directorate of YRS, Conference Hall.
Addressing the felicitation ceremony, advisor youth resource and sports, Er. Zale Neikha recommended and appealed to the home department to promote Viseyie Koso who led the men’s Sepaktakraw team India and won a gold medal.
Presently Viseyie Koso, 38 years old is serving as Havildar in DGP Sepaktakraw team and had been playing Sepaktakraw for 20 years.
The advisor while congratulating all three players for bringing laurels to the entire nation and to the state assured that an indoor stadium would be taken as the main priority and would immediately send the proposal to the ministry.
Neikha also lauded the three players for their hard work and determination who secured medals for the nation and state besides having poor sports infrastructure in the state.
He acknowledged the State Sports Academy for nurturing the young people and preparing them for international games and exuded confidence that state sport players would excel more in future.
Viseyie Koso and Sezovelu Dozo in their address both shared the setback of practising in the open field due to lack of sports infrastructure which make them difficult to play at indoor stadiums in international level.
The duo appealed to the state government to provide a proper indoor stadium along with proper facilities for the players which will be a huge boost in producing more national and international players from the state. The felicitation ceremony was chaired by director YR&S, Akumla Chuba while invocation was pronounced by senior state coach, Khriehutuo Tsira.
Youth resources and sports secretary Wezope Kenye and Holshe Khrieo also delivered short speeches.
According to the report made available, 23 nations around the world participated and India emerged as the best nation securing first position in men’s Regu Sepaktakraw and also secured third position in mixed quadrant Sepaktakraw for 2022.
Brief profile of the players:

  1. Visweyie Koso (38 years) Havildar – From DGP Sepaktakraw team. Sepaktakraw player for 20 years; 2 times Asian Games; 14 times international level player and 20 times national level player.
  2. Akumtila (22 years) – 9 years in sports girls academy Dimapur; 3 times international player and 16 times national player.
  3. Sezovelu Dozo (20 years) – 8 years in State Sports Academy Dimapur; first time international player and 13 times national player.
