National TB Elimination Programme meeting discuss ways to eliminate TB

National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) conducted its first quarter review meeting Thursday at the IDSP Conference Hall, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Kohima, wherein members deliberated on effective ways to achieve programme’s targets indicators, increase screening and eliminate Tuberculosis (TB).
A press release by NTEP, H&FW stated that the meeting was attended by Districts TB Officers (DTOs) and World Health Organization (WHO) consultants.
At the meeting State TB officer, Dr Tiasunup Pongener encouraged DTOs and staff to put more efforts for TB elimination.
Mission Director (NHM), Dr.Thorhusie Katiry appreciated NTEP for conducting review meeting and also encouraged all to strive harder to achieve the programme’s targets indicators.
In a presentation on state performance, WHO medical consultant, Dr. Collins Z Sono said Kiphire district has screened more than 3000 presumptive TB followed by Longleng district screening more than 2000 in the first quarter January –March 2022. He also encouraged districts to increase the screening on presumptive TB.
Dr. Sono said from first quarter, notification achievement was 87% and districts like Dimapur, Kiphire and Mon have achieved it whereas Peren, Phek and Tuensang districted needed to increase notification achievement. He said success rate was 83% and HIV known status for TB patients was 96%.
As per the district wise TB score for the state of Nagaland for the first quarter which is based on nine indicators (success rate, UDST, Notification rate, HIV known status etc), Dr. Sono said Kiphire district stood first with 90 marks followed by Mokokchung district 84 mark and third was begged by Mon district 80 mark and that Tuensang district was the “worst performing district”.
WHO medical consultant, Dr.Palsah Talukdar stressed on community support for TB patients and on the importance of making sure that patients consent was taken.
The members also discussed on topics like Nikshay mitra, district strategic plan, ACSM, multisectoral co-ordination, Nikshay Aushadhi, engagement of service providers (NGOs) and newer initiative during meeting.
