Neiphiu Rio call to preserve and promote rich Naga culture

Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio Tuesday called upon Nagas to preserve and promote the rich Naga culture and heritage by documenting them.
He said this while speaking at the Phom Monyu tribal festival celebration at Longleng local ground as special guest. Rio said that in order to preserve and promote the rich culture and traditions, mini hornbill festivals and tribal festivals were organised in every district of the State. He also advised the people to uphold their colourful attires without imitation to attract tourists, DIPR report stated.
Maintaining that Nagaland was a tribal State with every tribe having own unique culture and tradition, Rio said this was the reason why the State was referred to as the “Land of Festivals”.
Mentioning that festivals were a time for celebration to renew friendship and social bound with love and forgiveness, the chief minister urged the people to celebrate them with full fervour and gaiety.
He also appreciated the Monyu festival, terming it is unique because it showed more love and respect to the womenfolk.
Rio also exhorted the gathering to promote and protect the rich biodiversity and scenic beauty of the land, while cultivating their fields. He advised the people to live with peace and harmony, adding that development could take place only in a peaceful environment.
On the occasion, Rio assured to blacktop Longleng town roads and asked the Longleng executive engineer (R&B) to come up with a detailed estimate in this regard.
In his Monyu greetings, Health & Family Welfare minister and festival host S. Pangnyu Phom urged the people to celebrate the festival with prayers for people in every walk of life.
Solidarity speeches were delivered by Ao Senden president Chubawati Longchar and Konyak Union president Howing Konyak. Welcome address was given by chief host and Phom People’s CouncilpresidentM Shami Angh.
Other highlights of the programme included pulling of log drum, special song by Eastern Blind Care Home, Dungkao Longleng, Monyu special song by Pongo village, Pang Jhenpu by Yongnyah village, beating of log drum by Pongching village and cultural dance by Hongnyula, Chuchuyimlang village, Phampak village, Momching village, Tamlu village and Sakshi block.
