National People’s Party open to alliance including BJP in Nagaland

Staff Reporter

In an open call for alliance by National People’s Party (NPP) with any other party especially Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), NPP national general secretary and in-charge of Nagaland and Tripura and MLA from Manipur M Rameshwar Singh, declared that his party was open to alliance with any likeminded party, adding “We would be very happy to work with BJP too”.
He said if NPP formed the government with the help of parties like BJP or other parties who think for the welfare of Naga people, “I can assure you that we will be a big catalyst in bringing a turnaround in the development of the State.”
Addressing media at the NPP State office here on Saturday in the presence of party’s senior national and State leaders Singh made the statement after being asked if NPP was open to any alliance for the upcoming Assembly elections. He noted that BJP was very proactive under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Singh said Modi was concerned for the welfare of the people of the Northeast. He said the region had been given priority by the Centre because of its geo-strategic location.
Referring to the two legislators – L Khumo and Imnatiba – who had defected from NPP to NDPP, Singh said NPP will be more careful in selecting candidates. “Loyalty to the party and seriousness in serving the people of the State – keeping these two considerations in mind, we will select our candidates very carefully this time,” he added.
Asked the areas NPP would focus if elected to power, Singh identified employment generation, creation of industries, increase in per capita income, healthcare, both general and professional education, IT-enabled services like call centres, agriculture, etc, would be the prime focus of NPP if elected to power in Nagaland.
He said though the BJP-led government at the Centre had more than 125 schemes, many of these were not reaching the State. He assured that NPP, if voted to power, would ensure that all schemes and benefits reached the State.
On the purpose of his visit to Nagaland, Singh said NPP national team was here to review and put on ground the vision and mission of the party.
He declared that NPP aimed at bringing a turnaround in the development of Nagaland by increasing per capita income of the people and bringing economic welfare, peace, and overall development.
