NSLSA conducts awareness programmes

DIMAPUR: In the month of February, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) under the aegis of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authorities (NSLSA) organised awareness and sensitisation on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, 1994 in
collaboration with district administration and District Level Centres for Women at various cluster and communities.
A press release from NSLSA informed that Mahila Shakti Kandra (MSK) in collaboration with Longleng District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) organised a sensitization & awareness programme on the provisions of POCSO Act, 2012 at Mongtikang village.
During the programme, project assistant P Monyei Phom deliberated on the cases of child sexual abuse.
“To combat the menace, it is important that we all take responsibility in our own ways,” she said.
Stating that among frequency of incidences of violations against children reported, Monyei informed that most of them happened in institutional surroundings where children spent their maximum time.
In some incidents, children were perpetrators or sometimes victimised by people of their own surroundings.
Later, she briefed on various offences and punishment.
Meanwhile on February 15, Longleng district administration and the District Level Centre for Women Mahila Shakti Kandra (MSK) in collaboration with Longleng DLSA conducted orientation & training programme on POCSO, Act 2012 and PCPNDT Act, 1994 for Anganwadi and Asha workers at VDB hall in Longleng town.
Resource person P Monyei Phom, project assistant spoke on the POCSO Act’s different types of offences and punishment and encouraged the gathering to be more practical in approach relating to the offence under the prescribed law.
Panglang Y Phom highlighted on the topic PCPNDT Act and urged the gathering to approach LDLSA for necessary services.
Meanwhile, Wokha DLSA in coordination with district administration, DLCW-MSK BBBP conducted orientation and training programme on POCSO Act, 2012 and PCPNDT Act, 1994 with Anganwadi Workers of Wozhuro-Sub Division Block on February 11, Sanis block covering seven villages on February 15 and Bhandari sub-division on February 16 covering 43 villages.
Wokha District Legal Services Authorities in coordination with district administration, DLCW-MSK also conducted training and orientation programme on POCSO and PCPNDT Acts on February 24 comprising of 16 villages at Ralan sub-division.
During the training, DPA WDLSA Shanchobeni P Lotha spoke on POCSO, basic procedures of law and benefits under RTE, health, family and social welfare schemes. WDLSA also visited and reviewed Legal Aid Clinic Ralan at SDO civil office Ralan Wokha.
On February 21, WDLSA in coordination with district administration, DLCW-MSK BBBP conducted training and orientation programme on POCSO and PCPNDT Act with Anganwadi Workers of Chukitong sub-division block comprising seven villages.
