Nunes regains bantamweight title; reaffirms ‘GOAT’ status

Amanda Nunes reaffirmed her height to those few who doubted her after losing her bantamweight title to Julianna Peña in December. And even though Peña surrendered her belt to Nunes in Saturday’s UFC 277 main event at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, she proved she’s one of the toughest fighters to ever set foot in the Octagon.
It was an incredible fight as Nunes made an early right and Peña repeatedly snapped with hard right hands, TOI.News reported. In the second half of the fight, she got wrestle-heavy and Peña, despite being covered in blood, vomited with submission attempts.
But this was Nunes’ night and she put on perhaps her greatest performance since stopping Cris Cyborg at UFC 232 in 2018. Nunes swept all five rounds on all three judges’ cards, winning by 50-45, 50-44, and 50-43. Yahoo Sports had Nunes, 50-44.
There was little doubt when it was over, although there was plenty of doubt throughout the fight. Nunes reaffirmed her status as the greatest fighter in MMA history, but Peña is still her biggest challenge after two fights.
