S Phangnon Konyak takes oath as RS member

Six newly elected Rajya Sabha MPs including S Phangnon Konyak from Nagaland took oath in the Upper House on Monday. Phangnon Konyak, who took oath wearing traditional attire, was elected uncontested to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Nagaland becoming the first woman to represent the state in the Upper House.
Rajya Sabha chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu presided over the process of oath and affirmation of new members.
Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton along with PHE minister, Jacob Zhimomi and advisor Mmhonlumo Kikon also witnessed the oath taking process of Phangnon Konyak.
Also, in attendance were lone Lok Sabha MP Tokheho Yepthomi and Jyoti Kalash, PRC Nagaland House Delhi.
On the sidelines of the event, Patton said that it was a historic day because for the first time a BJP representative from Nagaland was sent to the Parliament.
Patton said he was very optimistic that the young and dynamic leader will make her presence felt in Parliament and can be a very good Ambassador for the state.
Congratulating the MP, Patton, on behalf of the state BJP legislators and State Karyakartas, thanked the chief minister Neiphiu Rio, constituents of UDA government and its chairman TR Zeliang for giving opportunity to BJP uncontested, stated media cell Dy.CMO.
