SAMETI conducts training for ATMA functionaries

State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a two-day training programme on “post-harvest management & value addition of horticulture crops” for ATMA functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema from July 12-13.
In a press release, SAMETI Medziphema informed that during the training, participants were made aware of thermal and non-thermal system for post-harvest management in horticulture crops, prospects of processing under-utilized crops in North East region.
Practical sessions on value addition of passion fruit and guava, development of protocols for preparation of RTS, development of protocol for sauce preparation were also conducted during the training.
Resource persons for the training included— assistant professor, department of Horticulture, NU: SASRD Medziphema campus, Dr. Animesh Sarkar, Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) Medziphema, Vinika K. Aomi, high skilled worker ICAR Jharnapani, Veralu Hesuh and scientist (spices, plantation, medicinal and aromatic plants) ICAR NER, Jharnapani, Dr. Azeze Seyie.
During the visit to CIH and ICAR, hands-on demonstration on making value additions on raw materials such as jackfruit squash, plum squash, spices, etc were imparted to the participants.
The resource persons also encouraged the participants to make the best use of the rich and bountiful organic resources that Nagaland was blessed with.
Earlier, the valedictory programme was chaired by deputy project director, SAMETI, Janet Chishi, feedback on the training was given by participants of 11 districts, director SAMETI and principal IETC Dr. Watimongla Jamir distributed the certificates while DPD SAMETI, Yezaho Swu proposed vote of thanks.
