SASRD sensitises farmers on millets cultivation

With an objective to create awareness the farmers for adoption of millets cultivation, department of GPB, School of Agricultural Sciences & Rural Development (SASRD) Nagaland University (NU) Medziphema organised an awareness programme on June 16 at New Jalukie Village.
In a press release, NU: SASRD Medziphema informed that recently ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad sanctioned a scheme for promotion of millets cultivation in Nagaland and the awareness programme was organised in the same.
At the training, coordinator, millets promotion scheme, department of GPB, NU: SASRD, Dr. Pankaj Shah, highlighted nutritional importance of millets and emphasised on the ecological importance and health benefits of millets. Dr. Pankaj appealed the farmers to adopt millets cultivation as it was already in practice since among tribal communities.
He informed that a primary processing unit for millets would be established at SASRD-NU, Medziphema so that initial processing and value addition could be done.
Later, research scholar, Dr. Moatoshi Jamir described the production technology of finger millet and foxtail millet.
Altogether, 56 farmers and farm women associated with Women Integrated Action for Development and Empowerment Network (WIDEN), New Jalukie, Peren participated in the training.
