Sensitisation programme on disability and inclusive education

Oriental Theological Seminary (OTS) in partnership with Samagra Shiksha Nagaland (SSN) organised an awareness and sensitisation programme on “disability and inclusive education” at OTS campus, Bade, Dimapur on Monday.
In a press release, SSN informed that in her keynote address, state commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), Diethono Nakhro emphasised the need to recognise the rights of persons with disabilities to have equal opportunities.
She said that negative attitude of society towards disability was one of the biggest barriers to inclusion of PwDs.
Nakhro also stressed on the need for the church in Nagaland to participate more actively in the field of disability.
At the programme, Samagra Shiksha team highlighted inclusive education and the status of inclusive education in the state.
Meanwhile, Daniel Thong, senior lecturer and head, Inclusive Education and ICT, SCERT, Nagaland and chairman of Jo Foundation provided the students with practical examples of inclusive education.
He impressed upon them the importance of a strong theological basis and calling in becoming champions for inclusion.
