State CIC, Central CIC discuss misuse of RTI

State chief information commissioner (CIC), I. Meyionen Jamir paid a courtesy call on chief information commissioner, Central Information Commission, Y. K. Sinha at CIC office, New Delhi on Friday.
In a press release, PRO Nagaland House, New Delhi, Kuolie Mere informed that the meeting discussed various issues with regard to effective implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act in the state.
The misuse of the Act by RTI applicants for personal benefits, blackmailing of government departments and disrupting normal functioning of office and measures to tackle such issues were also discussed.
The CICs also discussed misuse of the Act by PIOs and department officials by negotiating with applicants to avoid parting with information/documents to cover up misdeeds of the departments.
Later, Jamir attended the board of governors meeting of the National Federation of Information Commissions in India at CIC Bhavan, New Delhi.
It may be mentioned that Nagaland is one of the few states where Suo moto disclosures by the public authorities are available on their official websites.
The state is also one of the nine states maintaining 100% responsiveness to the RTI applications.
