State level review meeting of FOCUS Nagaland

A state level review meeting of Fostering Climate Resilient Upland Farming System in the Northeast (FOCUS) – Nagaland updating project activities in all project areas was held on July 20 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.
According to a DIPR report, while addressing the gathering, Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) and mission director FOCUS-Nagaland, Y. Kikheto Sema said that FOCUS project which was effective in 2018 but officially launched only in January 2019 could not be implemented as planned due to the pandemic and other factors.
He also mentioned that many of the project activities were under convergence which was challenging, but expressed optimism that with the concerted effort of the project team and the agri and allied departments, the project would be able to perform better.
Kikheto said externally aided projects were important for the state and revealed that a World Bank-supported project for the farming sector would be implemented soon.
Meanwhile, director of agriculture, Ben Yanthan said climate change was affecting agriculture and the livelihood of the farmers of the state. He also presented the key findings of baseline survey and exhorted project team members to work towards achievement of project objectives.
Activities of all eight project districts were reviewed followed by discussion on the project’s various components.The meeting was chaired by additional secretary and state product director FOCUS, S. Tainiu and was attended by officers from agri & allied departments and project team members from district and state offices.
