Swachhata Hi Seva campaign begins at Kohima village

Swachhata Hi Seva (Visually Clean Village) 2022 campaign with the theme, “Remove Legacy Waste and Improve Visual Cleanliness in the Village” began on Wednesday at Kohima Village covering 5130 households.
The campaign was organized by PHED Kohima Urban Division and sponsored by Sanitation & WSSO, PHED. Executive Engineer, PHED Kohima Urban Division, Er. Supongyanger Aier highlighted the importance and objectives of the campaign. He said that the celebration of Swachhata Hi Seva commenced from September 15 to October 2 every year with focused to eliminate single-use plastics.
According to DIPR, this initiative was for undertaking voluntary (Shramdaan) activities to generate Mass Movement (Jan Andolan) through community participation for clean villages (Sampoorn Swachh) in commemoration of Swachh Bharat Diwas (October 2). Under this campaign, cleaning of garbage/ wastes at vulnerable sites in the village, creating awareness for segregation of waste (dry & wet) at source, construction of waste collection and segregation sheds/ centres, door to door collection of non-biodegradable waste like plastics, and keeping the area near water bodies clean and doing tree plantation around them will be taken up.
SDO (Civil) Sadar, Chonpen Ezung reminded the public about the DC’s order regarding the ban on single-use plastics and encouraged the citizens to come forth and take active participation and cooperation for the success of the campaign.
