Swine Fever zones under Kohima distt

Following the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) at various locations in Kohima district, deputy commissioner (DC) Shanavas C has notified certain areas as infected and surveillance zones.
As per the notification, Viswema and areas within 1 km radius have been declared infected zone, while Jakhama, Khuzama, Kigwema, Kidima, Kezoma, Phesama, Pfuchama, Mima and Mitelephe have been declared surveillance zone.
Similarly, Dzülekie and areas within 1 km radius have been declared infected zone, while Khonoma has been declared surveillance zone. Dzürüzu near KMC dumping site (New Meriema) and areas within 1 km radius have been notified as infected zone, while Meriema, Old and New Tsiesema, High School area, Kohima have been declared surveillance zone.
The DC has also ordered a ban on slaughter of pigs, import and export of pigs and piglets and transportation of pigs and pork in the infected and surveillance zonesuntil further notice, the order stated.
Ban transportation of pigs/piglets in Pfutsero: ADC Pfutsero, Japheth Woch, has restricted the inter-village transportation of pigs/piglets (both live and slaughtered) to Pfutsero town or vice versa from the affected village/areas with immediate effect as recommended by the assistant veterinary surgeon Pfutsero. According to DIPR report, unusual death of pigs and pigs affected with high fever and anorexia were being reported from Phusachudu village, Pfutsero town and villages under Pfutsero sub-division.
It stated that collection of blood samples of the affected pigs and post-mortem on carcass had been carried out for further lab testing.
