TASU serves 7-day deadline to repair road

Expressing anguish over the deplorable and non-pliable road condition of Namtola to Mon NH-702 road, the Tapi Area Students’ Union (TASU) has served one-week deadline on the department concern and contractors to carry out maintenance work, particularly between Tuimei village and Mon village junction, under TASU jurisdiction.
In a press note, TASU president M Chingmei Konyak and asst. gen secretary Yeihtai Konyak questioned the concern authority for turning blind eye to the only lifeline of Mon district.
It pointed out that NM road NH-702 has been in existence since the British era and has never been improved. TASU said that despite the contractors and workers being deployed for over a year, the road condition had gone from bad to worse, endangering the lives of commuters and especially serious patients.
The dusty road during winters and muddy during monsoon has caused untold misery not only to the passers-by but also those residing near the road.
While reminding that good road is the way for development of any society, TASU warned that failing to address the issue within the given time-frame “may invite more aggression from the union and vast section of public” as it was the only lifeline for people of Mon district.
Meanwhile, the union lauded the steps taken up by the Tizit Area Students’ Union for the cause of Konyaks and the district in general.
