ULB polls: DUCFF, AKMWP, AWUMT reaffirm stand

Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF), Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) and All Wards Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT), which held at a joint meeting held here on Monday, reaffirmed the resolution No.2 passed during their meeting in Kohima on November 21, 2021. The resolution urged the state government to hold Urban Local Bodies (ULB) election at the earliest with due rectification and amendment of the Nagaland Municipal Act wherever it infringed the Article 371 (A) of the Indian constitution.
At Monday’s meeting, the three bodies also decided to depute a senior and well experienced lawyer to study Nagaland Municipal Act 2001, on behalf of the three municipals councils, and to represent the councils thereof.
The two resolutions were adopted by raising hands after thorough deliberation on the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 and various sections of the amendment of the Act that infringed the rights of the Nagas.
With regard to 33% women reservation in the ULB elections, the three bodies were of the opinion that they were neither for nor against it.
The discussion hour was led by seasonal convenor of three municipal council meeting, Thejao Sekhose. The meeting was chaired by DUCCF vice president Lemba Chang, welcome address was delivered by DUCCF president Tsenthungo Nyamo. Later, the meeting concluded with a mass prayer.
