Villagers plant 8500 saplings in Chetheba area

Around 500 villagers from Chetheba, Kohima and Dimapur planted 8500 saplings, including fruit bearing trees at the mass plantation drive carried out on May 14.
The plantation drive was organised by Thenyizumi Youth Social Welfare Organization (TYSWO) in collaboration with village council, women society and student union body under the theme “Green Thenyizu”.
During the drive, saplings of different species were planted along the road sides connecting Chakhabama-Zunheboto from Sedzu river to Chetheba.
Speaking before the plantation drive, director of Technical Education, Er. Mhaseto Nakro exhorted the villagers to continue nurturing the saplings to ensure success of the drive. He also asked them to continue the follow up even in the coming years.
He said plantation will not only add aesthetic beauty but will contribute in the environmental issues and hoped it will provide the needed balance in the ecosystem.
VCC Medothi Rhakho acknowledged the villagers for coming together for the plantation.
Earlier, a brief programme was held chaired and led by president TYSWO, Veseta Swuro and local catechist, St. Andrew Church, Thenyizumi, Thedüseyi Porüh invoked God’s blessing before the plantation drive.
