Women Football C’ship: Nagaland U-17 out after 1-1 draw with Punjab


Nagaland U-17 girls bowed out of the Hero Junior U-17 Women Football Championship 2022 after 1-1 draw against Punjab in the last league match on at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium Practice Ground, Guwahati on Sunday. Team Nagaland came from behind to snatch a draw.
In a must win match for both teams, Punjab got into scoresheet through Palak in the 39th minute of the game. In the second half, Nagaland equalized through Nirmala Rai in the 49th minute.
However, both teams failed to score and the match ended in a draw. While Kerala thrashed Ladakh 8-1 to top Group E and progressed to the quarterfinals round of the tournament.
Ruopfü Meyase sharing about his experience as a coach for the tournament said, it was a great exposure for the girls but suggested that the need to encourage more girls to play football in future so that better results can be expected. In the tournament, Nagaland won against Ladakh 2-1, lost to Karela 0-7 and drew with the Punjab 1-1 in the last match.
Players were: Chimmushe, Abeno, Nirmala, Hupolu, Dietho, Ahenu, Diezechunuo, Kevisenuo, Nyumei, Visanolie, Sanjeli, Thaibeli, Hamshai, Barsaindi, Joshmaidi, Lolenu, Kevineinuo and Vila.
