Work for the interest of farmers: G Kaito tells officers

Minister for agriculture and cooperation, G Kaito Aye, has asked the agri department officers to work together for the interest of the farmers in the state.
Speaking at the co-ordination meeting of agriculture officers at capital convention centre here on Friday, the minister directed the agriculture officers to follow the system and not violate the rules so as to ensure that the department was not blacklisted by the central ministry.
In order to see how the schemes were being implemented, the minister called for holding a review meeting with all the allied departments. Informing that the central government was according priority to farming, Aye has, therefore, asked the officers to be on the field and assist the farmers. He reminded that talking about difficulties at all times would not solve any issue.
The minister also asked the officers to take the confidence of the deputy commissioners of their respective districts and work together.
With the advancement of the technology, Aye said the officers should keep themselves updated and also work to promote the farmers.
Further, the minister advised the officers to educate the farmers on various schemes available for them. He reminded them that field visit was very important to get the reality of the farmer’s condition.
Underscoring the need for cluster system of farming than traditional farming, he reminded the officers that occupying the chair would not help the progress of farmers.
Disclosing that cadre review was in progress, the minister said that the officers would get what was due to them and advised them to perform as well.
The agriculture production commissioner (APC) Nagaland, Y Kikheto Sema, in his address, described the Agri department as the mother of all allied departments and urged the officers to be sincere and responsible.
Pointing out that about 70% of the total population of Nagaland were engaged in agriculture, the APC said that the officers were responsible to the tune of about 14 lakh people in the state.
Reminding the officers that the department has immense responsibility, Sema said asked them to encourage modern way of farming, which was more beneficial and sustainable for the farmers.
Further, APC urged the officers to create awareness and educate the farmers on KCC scheme so more farmers could avail the loan. He also urged the directorate office to monitor the attendance of the officers and staff in districts as many officers were not present at their positing place. The programme was chaired by agri director M. Ben Yanthan while additional agri director BN Phom proposed vote of thanks.
