Workshop on beekeeping conducted in Wokha

DIMAPUR: Wokha Forest division conducted workshops on “beekeeping” at Nature Learning Centre, Forest Office Complex, Dimapur on April 4 and 5. The programme, under the aegis of National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS), ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) was organised in convergence with Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM).
Resource persons for the workshop were NBHM experts, Nzanbemo K Lotha, NBHM team member and Mhathung Tsopoe, team member NBHM.
During the programme, Nzanbemo K Lotha spoke on beekeeping for sustainable development and beekeeping start-up, with special reference to Dimapur district.
Meanwhile, Mhathung Tsopoe covered topics including role of bee in forest ecosystem and honey by-products and value addition. During the two-day programme, around 200 participants from eight villages in and around Dimapur participated.
The participants comprised of JFMCs, SHGs, public and students. The workshops were aimed at empowering local communities by means of providing alternate sustainable livelihood options.
Flyers on beekeeping were also distributed to all the participants.
