India, Bangladesh joint military exercise kicks off in Meghalaya

India and Bangladesh kick started the ninth edition of joint military exercise at the newly set-up training node in Umroi cantonment in Meghalaya on Monday.
The 14-day training exercise will continue till February 16.
A delegation comprising of 31 officers and 138 other ranks of Bangladesh Army is being led by Brigadier General Md Shafiul Azam of the 42nd Bangladesh infantry regiment, while the Indian Army is led by Brigadier Rajesh Sharma of the Bihar regiment.
Welcoming the Bangladeshi contingent, Sharma said that the main focus of the joint exercise is on counter terrorist operations in mountainous and jungle terrains under the United Nations mandate.
“India and Bangladesh are the two nations which progressed on a path of mutual co-existence and peace as neighbours. Both the nations are also engaged in the process of socio-economic transformation of the people at an unprecedented pace and on a large scale,” he said
Sharma said the exercise will go a long way in honing the skills of both the contingents based on sharing of specialised knowledge and tactical expertise.
On the inaugural day of the joint exercise, Azam and Sharma reviewed the parade of both the contingents.
