International drug lord detained under NSA in Mnp

A Myanmar national who was tagged as “international drug lord” by Manipur police has been detained under National Security Act (NSA) 1980.

Thoubal district magistrate has issued an order detaining Kyaw Kyaw Naing alias Abdul Rahim (33) of Kawhmu village of Moha Rangoon in Myanmar under NSA on January 29 last, an official source said on Monday.

Naing was arrested by a team of Thoubal district police in August 2019 outside the Imphal International Airport in a follow up action to the seizure of Rs 400 crore worth WY (World is Your) tablet in the district on August 24, 2019.

The police who detained him after registering a case tagged him as “international drug lord.”

He was alleged of involving in smuggling contraband substances in Myanmar, India and Bangladesh.

The alleged drug kingpin has been in the judicial custody since his arrest has secured bail from a local court on January 28. While granting his bail with a surety bond of Rs.3 lakh, the court restricted him from going outside the state of Manipur during the bail period.

However, before releasing him on bail pending formalities, Thoubal district magistrate passed an order on January 29 to detain him under section 3(2) of National Security Act 1980 until further orders of the court.

District magistrate N Bandana Devi passed the order in exercise of the power conferred to her under sub-section 3 of section 3 of National Security Act on January 25.

In an order passed based on police report, the district magistrate stated Naing, who is currently in police custody, is likely to continue to act in the manner prejudicial to the security of the state and maintenance of public order.

It is pertinent to mention here that a team of Thoubal police arrested the alleged international drug lord in a follow up action to the seizure of 40 lakh pieces of World is Your tablet worth Rs 400 crore on the night of August 23 2019.
