JEE-Main: Centre relaxes 75% score requirement

In a major relief to students, Union Education ministry on Tuesday decided to waive off the 75% marks (Class 12 exam) eligibility criteria under Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for the academic year 2021-2022.

The announcement comes a day after Union Education minister Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had said that competitive exams such as JEE Main 2021, held as an engineering entrance test, and medical entrance test NEET 2021 will be held on the basis of a reduced syllabus.  

“Considering the decision taken for IIT JEE (Advanced) and in line with the decision taken for the last academic year, the Ministry of Education had decided to waive off the 75% marks (in class 12 exam) eligibility criteria under Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for the next academic year 2021-2022 in respect of NITs, IIITs, SPAs and other CFTIs, whose admissions are based on JEE (Main),” the minister tweeted.

JEE, NEET syllabus unchanged: In another announcement, the ministry stated informed that the syllabus of JEE and NEET will remain unchanged for the year 2021. However, unlike previous years, this year the candidates will have options to answer the questions in JEE and NEET Examinations, it added.

The exact pattern for NEET (UG) 2021 is yet to be announced. However, in view of reduction of syllabus by some boards across the country, the NEET (UG) 2021 question paper will also have options on the lines of JEE (Main).
