A 16-year-old leg spinner from Nagaland, Khrievitso Kense was on Thursday selected as a support player for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).  

Nagaland Cricket Association congratulated Kense for being selected as a support player for reigning IPL champion Mumbai Indians (MI). 

Taking to twitter, Nagaland Cricket Association said, “Congrats to Mr. Khrievitso Kense of #Nagaland on being selected as a support player for #Mumbai Indians in the @IPL. This is just the beginning of what should be a glorious & path breaking career ahead”.

Kense became the youngest player shortlisted for the IPL auction last month in Chennai. A total of 292 cricketers went under the hammer – 164 of which are Indians, 125 from overseas and 3 from associate nations. 

He had a base price of Rs 20 lakh and the buzz was that both the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals were eyeing the youngest player in an auction pool of 292. However, Kense failed to find his buyers during the auction.

Earlier this year, Khrievitso Kense, underwent trials with the Rajasthan Royals at the Royal Academy, Nagpur.IPLfranchise Mumbai Indians have also invited Kense for bowling trials after the youngster produced a series of impressive performances on his domestic debut at the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.

Making his debut, the cricket prodigy played four matches and scalped seven-wicket at an average of 12.00. His best figure was against Mizoram where he picked three wickets for 16 runs.

Earlier, reigning IPL champion MI had shortlisted Khrievitso Kense for trials ahead of the season expected to get underway in April. 

His journey to becoming a professional cricketer started at age 7, when he played tennis ball cricket with friends.
